BUG

Language packs are not automatically installed on Windows 8 and Server 2012

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Language packs are not automatically installed on Windows 8 and Server 2012. After the base setup completes, the language pack setup does not launch.

Affected products include:

•ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop
•ArcGIS 10.1 for Server
•ArcGIS 10.1 Engine
•ArcGIS 10.1 ArcReader
•ArcGIS 10.1 Web Applications for the Microsoft .NET Framework

Note:
This issue has been fixed for ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 for Server.

Cause

Because ArcGIS 10.1 was released before Windows 8 and Server 2012, they are not detected as supported operating systems by setup.exe.

Workaround

The workaround for this issue is to manually install the language pack.

  1. Browse to the setup download location. The default location is <User Documents folder>\ArcGIS 10.1\.
  2. Open the folder containing the setup resources. The name of this folder depends on the product and language. For example, if you downloaded the French version of ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop, the folder name will be Desktop_French.
  3. Open the Supplement folder.
  4. Double-click the file with the .msi file extension. This is the language pack setup. Similar to the download folder containing the setup resources, the name of this file depends on the product language. For example, if you downloaded the French version of ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop, the name of the language pack will be DesktopFrench.msi.
