Error: Input parameter hostId of TrustedHostEntityBO.createTrustedHostEntityBO cannot be null" when authorizing ArcGIS License Manager 10.0 SP2 in Amazon

Error Message

After installing 10.0 Service Pack 2 for the ArcGIS License Manager on the Amazon EC2 platform, running the authorization wizard fails with the error:

"Input parameter hostId of TrustedHostEntityBO.createTrustedHostEntityBO cannot be null"

Cause

A system identification issue has been found with Amazon Cloud-based ArcGIS License Manager 10.0 deployments with Service Pack 2 installed.

Solution or Workaround

If Service Pack 2 for ArcGIS License Manager 10.0 has been applied to an Amazon EC2-based license manager, Service Pack 2 should be removed and rolled back to 10.0 Service Pack 1.

If an Amazon Cloud image has not yet been created, do not install the ArcGIS License Manager 10.0 Service Pack 2 or the 10.0 Service Pack 1 License Manager Patch. There are no known issues with installing ArcGIS License Manager 10.0 or 10.0 SP1.

To roll ArcGIS License Manager 10.0 SP2 back to 10.0 SP1, follow the steps below to uninstall the ArcGIS License Manager from the system, re-install the ArcGIS License Manager 10.0, and apply SP1.

  1. Open the License Server Administrator from Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager.
  2. Navigate to the Start/Stop License Service view. Press 'Stop' and exit the License Server Administrator.
  3. Open Control Panel and navigate to Programs and Features (or Add/Remove Programs on XP or Windows Server 2003).
  4. Highlight ArcGIS License Manager 10.0 and Select Uninstall/Change.
  5. Select Remove in the Uninstall wizard.
    Note:
It is not necessary to de-authorize the ArcGIS License Manager any time during this process unless migrating to another server.

  6. When uninstall is complete, navigate to the install media for ArcGIS License Manager 10.0 and reinstall. It is optional to apply SP1 to the final setup.
  7. Open the License Server Administrator from Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager.
  8. Navigate to the Start/Stop License Service view. Press 'Start' and exit the License Server Administrator.
