Problem: ArcPad Data Manager extension is not visible in ArcMap 10

Description

After installing ArcPad 7.1.1 or 8.0 with ArcGIS Desktop 10, the ArcPad Data Manager extension is not visible in ArcMap. If ArcPad 10.0 is installed prior to ArcGIS 10.0, the Data Manager will also not appear.

Cause

The ArcPadToolsGen2.dll file did not register properly.

Solution or Workaround

For the ArcPad Data Manager extension to appear in ArcMap, it is necessary to manually register the ArcPadToolsGen2.dll file.

  1. Close any running instances of ArcMap or ArcCatalog and open the Windows Command Prompt by clicking Start > Run and typing 'cmd' on a Windows XP machine or entering 'cmd' in the global search dialog box in Windows Vista or Windows 7.

    Note:
In Vista and Windows 7, it is necessary to right-click cmd.exe and click 'Run as administrator'.

  2. Depending on the version of ArcPad, type the following text into the command prompt, including the quotation marks:
    [O-Image]

    32-bit systems:
    "c:\program files\common files\arcgis\bin\esriregasm.exe"
    "c:\program files\arcgis\arcpad10.0\desktoptools10\arcpadtoolsgen2.dll"

    64-bit systems:
    "c:\program files (x86)\common files\arcgis\bin\esriregasm.exe"
    "c:\program files (x86)\arcgis\arcpad10.0\desktoptools10\arcpadtoolsgen2.dll"

    ArcPad 8.x
    32-bit systems:
    "c:\program files\common files\arcgis\bin\esriregasm.exe"
    "c:\program files\arcpad 8.0\desktop tools\arcpadtoolsgen2.dll"

    64-bit systems:
    "c:\program files (x86)\common files\arcgis\bin\esriregasm.exe"
    "c:\program files (x86)\arcpad 8.0\desktop tools\arcpadtoolsgen2.dll"

    ArcPad 7.1.1
    32-bit systems:
    "c:\program files\common files\arcgis\bin\esriregasm.exe"
    "c:\program files\arcpad 7.1\desktop tools\arcpadtoolsgen2.dll"

    64-bit systems:
    "c:\program files (x86)\common files\arcgis\bin\esriregasm.exe"
    "c:\program files (x86)\arcpad 7.1\desktop tools\arcpadtoolsgen2.dll"

  3. Click 'Register' in the Register ArcGIS Assembly dialog box.
