HOW TO

Move the floating BusinessMAP button in Excel

Last Published: April 26, 2020

Summary

After installing the Excel link for BusinessMAP, the 'launch BusinessMAP' button floats over the worksheet. Instructions provided describe how to move the 'launch BusinessMAP' button to the main toolbar.

Procedure

To move the BusinessMAP button in Excel (for Office XP) so that it remains on the toolbar, perform the following steps (this assumes BusinessMAP with the Excel link is installed):
  1. Open Excel.
  2. From the BusinessMAP floating toolbar, drag the BusinessMAP icon to an existing Excel toolbar (this moves the icon, leaving the floating toolbar empty).
  3. To only have the icon and not the 'BusinessMAP launcher' words displayed, change it before taking the next step; otherwise, skip to step 4.

To hide the button text, right-click on the icon and select Customize from the menu. An edit dialog box appears and, while it is open, right-click on the BusinessMAP icon again (it will give you a different menu). From the context menu, select Default Style. It is then possible to close the dialog box (no changes are necessary in the dialog box).
  4. Close Excel.
  5. Now that the BusinessMAP icon has moved to a different toolbar, it is possible to remove the empty BusinessMAP Launcher toolbar. This requires a change in the Registry.
    Warning:
The instructions below include making changes to essential parts of your operating system. It is recommended that you backup your operating system and files, including the registry, before proceeding. Consult with a qualified computer systems professional, if necessary.

Make the change by opening the registry (start, run, regedit) and navigating to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\bmaddin.ExcelAddin.
Modify the LoadBehavior value to '2' (rather than 3) by right-clicking on LoadBehavior, selecting Modify, and changing the value. Close the registry.

After the above, reopen Excel, and make sure the change has taken place as desired.
