PROBLEM

Application conflict when simultaneously running PCTools Threatfire 4.0.0.10 and McAfee Virus Scan

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

A conflict occurs when McAfee Virus Scan operates on a machine using Threatfire Virus Scan.

When these anti-virus applications run simultaneously, most of the ArcGIS 9.3 Geoprocessing tools in ArcToolbox, as well as many exporting functions, generate a generic 99999 error and do not function.

Cause

PC Tools Threatfire 4.0.0.10 and later versions are causing a conflict when it is run simultaneously with McAfee Virus Scan.

Solution or Workaround

Disabling the virus scanning capabilities of the Threat Fire application allows the tools in the ArcToolbox to work properly, after restarting ArcGIS 9.3.

  1. Right-click the Threat Fire icon in Windows task bar.
  2. Select 'Disable' from the drop-down menu. This temporarily disables the scanning function of the application and allows the tools in ArcToolbox to function properly.
