PROBLEM

Setting a pyramid reference point causes a slight shift when executing a SDE raster mosaic

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

When mosaicking multiple rasters into an SDE raster dataset, a pyramid reference point is recommended to save time building pyramids. After the mosaic is completed, a slight shift may be experienced.

Cause

The pyramid reference point was not specified in an exact cell size interval. For example, the top left pixel of the top left image that participates in the mosaic is 500000, 6000000, and the cell size of all the rasters is 2 meters. If the user specifies the pyramid reference point to be 499997, 6000003, there will be a slight shift of 1 meter.

Since the cell size of the raster dataset is 2 meters, the pyramid reference point should be specified as an exact denomination of this value (e.g., 499996, 6000004).

Solution or Workaround

Recreate the SDE raster mosaic with an appropriate pyramid reference point, or georeference the raster dataset to the correct location.
