Problem: 'Privileges' is grayed out when right-clicking an ArcSDE feature class as data owner

Description

When right-clicking a feature class in an ArcSDE geodatabase from ArcGIS Desktop, the 'Privileges' command is grayed out even though the user is connected as the data owner.

Cause

The ArcGIS license level is set to ArcView or ArcGIS for Desktop Basic.

Solution or Workaround

The software must be reauthorized or set to a different license manager. An ArcEditor (Standard) or ArcInfo (Advanced) ArcGIS Desktop license must be available to change the license level of the software.

  1. Close all ArcGIS applications.
  2. Authorize ArcGIS Desktop with an ArcEditor or ArcInfo license.

For ArcGIS 9.3.x and earlier releases:

    a. Go to Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > Desktop Administrator.
    b. Click 'Software Product' under ArcGIS Desktop.
    c. Check the bullet for either ArcEditor or ArcInfo.

For ArcGIS 10 and later releases:

    a. Go to Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator.
    b. Click 'Desktop'.
    c. Check the bullet for either ArcInfo or ArcEditor.
    d. Specify a license manager or authorize the software with a new single use license.
