FAQ: Why are there fewer administration commands available for some of the ArcSDE 64-bit installations?

Question

Why are there fewer administration commands available for some of the ArcSDE 64-bit installations?

Answer

Several of the ArcSDE administration commands are built with ArcInfo Workstation technology. Since ArcInfo Workstation is not supported on some 64-bit operating systems, these administration commands are not available for those operating systems. These commands include the following:

cov2sde
sde2cov
sde2shp
sde2tbl
shp2sde
tbl2sde
shpinfo

The tasks these commands perform can be accomplished through ArcGIS Desktop. Alternatively, if these commands must be used, for example, in scripts, install ArcSDE on a client machine that is using a supported operating system (OS) and utilize these commands from the client machine.

The ArcSDE/operating system combinations that do not support these commands are as follows:

ArcSDE 64-bit for Oracle on HP-UX Itanium
ArcSDE 64-bit for Oracle on Linux
ArcSDE 64-bit for Oracle on Windows
ArcSDE 64-bit for SQL Server on Windows
ArcSDE 64-bit for PostgreSQL on Linux
ArcSDE 64-bit for DB2 on Linux
ArcSDE 64-bit for DB2 on Windows
ArcSDE 64-bit for Informix on Linux
ArcSDE 64-bit for Informix on IBM AIX
ArcSDE 64-bit for Informix on Sun Solaris
ArcSDE 64-bit for Informix on Windows
