PROBLEM

Empty values are returned in query results when using a join table from an Access database

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

When using a Microsoft Access table as a join table, the values from the join table return empty in query results. Also, using field names that begin with a number can cause this behavior.

Cause

The use of special characters such as as a number sign (#), a period (.), or a quotation mark (") in the field name can lead to this behavior. Using field names that begin with a number can also cause this behavior.

Solution or Workaround

Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Access database table and rename any fields that contain special characters (see link in Related Information below for additional information).
  2. Verify that the changes to fields names are reflected in the ArcMap document.
  3. Refresh the service for the changes to become effective.
