Why do JPEG2000s not have an associated .rrd file?

Answer

JPEG2000 images contain wavelet compression. This compression also exists for MrSID and ECW images. ArcGIS recognizes images that contain wavelet compression as having pyramids. There is not an .rrd file associated with these images.
