How To: Use Windows Groups with ArcSDE and SQL Server 2005

Procedure

  1. Open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and connect to a SQL Server Instance.
  2. Navigate to and expand the Security folder. Right-click Logins > New Login.
  3. Click the 'Search' button to browse for the Windows group. Select the Windows group and click OK.
  4. Specify a default database for the Windows Group.
  5. Click 'User Mapping' under 'Select a Page'. Add the Windows Group to any desired databases.
  6. To configure server-level permissions, including fixed-server role membership, click 'Server Roles' under 'Select a Page'.
  7. Select the role to add the Windows group.
  8. To configure finer-grained server permissions, click 'Securables' under 'Select a Page'.
  9. Click Add on the Securables page and select 'The Server [server_name]'.
  10. A list of permissions appears on the Securables page. Grant, revoke, or deny individual permissions to the Windows Group.
