Ink from Markup tools disappear after drawn in the data frame

Description

Ink from Markup tools disappear after drawn in the data frame.

Cause

The Markup functionality is stored to the active annotation layer in the map document. If the map document has the default annotation group turned off, the ink is not visible.

Solution or Workaround

1. In the ArcMap Table of Contents, right-click on the Data Frame and select Properties.
2. Select the Annotation Groups tab and click on the Default Annotation group check box.
3. Republish the map.
