Frequently asked question

Does ArcGIS Server require Direct X 9.x on Windows 2000 platform?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

No, ArcGIS Server does not have a DirectX requirement.

The Install guides for ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework and ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform mention that DirectX 9.0a, 9.0b or 9.0c is required for installing ArcGIS Server Object Container (SOC) on a Windows 2000 machine.

This is an error; DirectX is not required and it is not listed on the System Requirements webpage.

ArcGIS Server requires server machines to have an OpenGL 1.2 compliant Graphics card. The Graphics card is needed to support dynamic map and globe rendering and cache generation.
