Error: FLEXlm error: -14,7. System Error:11001 "WinSock: Host not found (HOST_NOT_FOUND)"

Error Message

The following error message is displayed in the License Manager Tools status enquiry:

"License server status: 27004@moo
License file(s) on moo: C:\PROGRA~1\ESRI\License\arcgis9x\arcinfo9.lic:

lmgrd is not running: Cannot find SERVER hostname in network database
The lookup for the hostname on the SERVER line in the
license file failed. This often happens when NIS or DNS
or the hosts file is incorrect. Workaround: Use IP-Address
(e.g., 123.456.789.123) instead of hostname
Hostname: moo
License path: 27004@moo
FLEXlm error: -14,7. System Error: 11001 "WinSock: Host not found (HOST_NOT_FOUND)""

Where 'moo' is the hostname set in the license files.

The license manager debug log file displays the follow error message:

"12:00:07 (lmgrd) "mistral": Not a valid server hostname, exiting.
12:00:07 (lmgrd) Valid server hosts are: "moo"
12:00:07 (lmgrd) Using license file "C:\PROGRA~1\ESRI\License\arcgis9x\ARCINFO9.lic""

Where 'mistral' is the actual hostname of the computer.

The hostname is set incorrectly in the license files.

Solution or Workaround

Correct the hostname in the .EFL9 license file or in the *9.lic files.

  1. A. Change the hostname in the .EFL9 license file. For example, change the following:

    SERVER moo ESRI_SENTINEL_KEY=371xxxxx 27004

    SERVER mistral ESRI_SENTINEL_KEY=371xxxxx 27004

Where 'moo' was the incorrect hostname of the computer and 'mistral' is the correct hostname.

    B. Start Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\ESRI\License\arcgis9x, select all current *9.lic files and delete them.

    C. Navigate to Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager 9.x > Update License and follow the wizard, browsing to the license file edited in step 1.
  2. A. To Change the hostname in the *9.lic files. Start Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\ESRI\License\arcgis9x.

    B. Open each *9.lic file in Notepad and correct the hostname. See the example in step 1A above.

    C. Restart the license service and perform a reread on the license files.
