Problem: ArcCatalog crashes when pasting data into an ArcSDE geodatabase if composite user interface parameters are found in the DBTUNE DEFAULTS keyword

Description

** This issues was addressed at ArcGIS version 9.3. **

Copying data from one source and pasting it into an ArcSDE geodatabase in ArcCatalog causes a runtime error to be displayed and crashes ArcCatalog.

Cause

ArcCatalog crashes if the DEFAULTS DBTUNE keyword contains a user interface (UI) composite configuration parameter.

Invalid UI composite parameters that cause ArcCatalog to crash:
· UI_NETWORK_TEXT
· UI_TOPOLOGY_TEXT
· UI_TERRAIN_TEXT

Solution or Workaround

The geodatabase administrator needs to remove the invalid parameter or parameters from the DBTUNE DEFAULTS keyword.

  1. Using the sdedbtune administration command, list the parameters for the DEFAULTS keyword.

    Code:
    sdedbtune -o list -k DEFAULTS -u sde

  2. Review the output and identify the invalid composite UI parameter: UI_NETWORK_TEXT, UI_TERRAIN_TEXT, or UI_TOPOLOGY_TEXT.

  3. Use the sdedbtune administration command to remove the invalid parameter from the DEFAULTS keyword. For example:

    Code:
    sdedbtune -o delete_data -k DEFAULTS -P UI_NETWORK_TEXT -u sde

    Note:
For details on using the sdedbtune command, consult the ArcSDE Administration Command Reference provided with the ArcSDE media.
