HOW TO

Display both sides of a TIN's areal features

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

Prior to ArcGIS 9.0, ArcScene displayed both sides of a TIN's areal face by default. At 9.0, backface culling was created and the default set to 'Hide backside of areal features'. As a result the areal face becomes transparent when viewing the TIN from underneath.

Instructions provided describe how to display both sides of a TIN's areal features.

Procedure

Change a setting on the 3D effects Toolbar.

  1. Add the 3D Effects toolbar to ArcScene by navigating to View > Toolbars > 3D Effects.
  2. From the 3D Effects layer dropdown, select the TIN to be effected by this change.
  3. Click the Layer Face Culling tool and select 'View both sides of areal features'.
