Frequently asked question

Why are warnings received about missing configuration parameters when sdesetup is run?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

Certain configuration parameters are required for an ArcSDE geodatabase to operate properly. If these parameters are missing from the dbtune file used to set up the geodatabase, ArcSDE automatically places these parameters in the DBTUNE table. A warning message displays indicating which parameters were missing from the dbtune file but inserted into the DBTUNE table by default. These warnings are provided for information purposes only; no action is necessary.

These messages may also display if the default dbtune file is altered and removed a required parameter prior to creating the ArcSDE geodatabase, or if a dbtune file is used from a previous ArcSDE release, which would be missing any new default configuration parameters.

Information about ArcSDE configuration parameters, the dbtune file, and the DBTUNE table is in the ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Server help, which can be accessed from the ESRI Resource Center.
