How To: Update the License File Using the Update License File Tool

Summary

Instructions provided describe how to update the license file with new or additional licenses using the 'Update License File' tool, when the License Manager is already installed and functioning.

Procedure

If the ESRI License Manager, (version 8.x) and the ArcGIS License Manager, (version 9.x) both reside on the same machine it is necessary to select the proper path when updating the license file using the 'Update License File' tool.

Note:
The paths for the 8.x and 9.x license managers are very similar: 8.x calls it 'License Manager' and 9.x calls it 'License Manager 9x'. Look for this when navigating to the correct Update License File.

For 8.x license managers

1. Click Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > Update License File.

2. When the Update License File tool is activated, browse to a valid 8.x license file with an extension of .txt or .lic.

1. Click Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager 9x > Update License File.

2. When the Update License File tool is activated, browse to a valid 9.x license file with an extension of .txt, .lic or .efl9.
