BUG

TIFF with JPEG compression shows as a black image in viewer for an image service

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

When creating an image service with raster layers based on TIFF images with JPEG compression, these TIFF images are displayed in black in the output map image, when viewing the image service in an ArcIMS Viewer. Re-creating the world *.tfw file for the TIFF image does not resolve this issue.

Cause

If the TIFF has JPEG compression, ArcIMS is not able to display it correctly.

Workaround

Select one of the following options:

  • Remove the JPEG compression for the TIFF image.
  • Create an ArcMap image service based on a .mxd file with the raster layers, instead of an image service.
