FAQ: Can Python scripts be run against licensed data?

Question

Can Python scripts be run against licensed data?

Answer

No; ArcGIS 9.1 does not provide access from Python scripts to licensed data. This is because, to access the licensed data, security information carried by parent extensions, as well as Street map extensions in general is required.

However, the engine environment does not support extension manager objects. This means that data sources cannot get the security parameters from the extensions, and as a result the licensed data cannot be opened.

Note:
Be aware that Python scripts are run outside of ArcMap.
