Solution or Workaround

  • Delete and recreate the service
    1. Delete the service.
    2. Reset the SDE user password to ensure accuracy.
    3. Recreate the service.

Proper use of the ArcSDE command references can be reviewed, under: "How to delete an ArcSDE service", by way of the Related Information section below.
  • Change password for SDE user

If the original SDE password that the service was initially created with is still in use, and the SDE password on the OS level has been changed, then the password can be changed again to match the SDE user password for the service.
  • Alter the SDE user password for the service

If the SDE user password has been altered on the OS level and the SDE password must be changed for the service to match this, use the following command:

    Note:
You must know the old SDE password to complete this command. This is the -p <SDE_DBA_PASSWORD> in the example below:

The registry keyword for SDE password is SDE_DBA_PASSWORD.

    Code:

ESRI ArcSDE System Service Utility Fri Nov 11 14:58:01 2005
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    sdeservice -o modify -r <registry_keyword> -v <new_value>
