Norton SystemWorks WinDoctor disables ArcGIS

Description

Running the Norton SystemWorks 2005 WinDoctor module with 'Fix Errors' enabled causes ArcGIS to stop working.

Cause

The WinDoctor module with 'Fix Errors' enabled removes several ArcGIS registry entries and corrupts the application.

Solution or Workaround

Do not use WinDoctor with Norton SystemWorks.

If the WinDoctor module with 'Fix Errors' enabled has already been run, repair the ArcGIS installation.

  1. To repair the ArcGIS installation, insert the ArcGIS Desktop, ArcView or ArcEditor CD into the computers CD-ROM drive.
  2. Select Install ArcGIS Desktop and click Next.
  3. Select Repair and click Next.
