BUG

TIFFs with colormaps are rendered with a stretch renderer if pyramids are built when adding the raster to ArcMap

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

TIFFs with colormaps are rendered with a stretch renderer if pyramids are built when adding the raster to ArcMap. By removing the raster and adding it into ArcMap, the correct colormap renderer is used to render the raster.

Cause

This is a known issue.

Workaround

Build the pyramids for the raster before adding it to ArcMap, using either of the methods below:

  • Option 1:
    1. Navigate to Geoprocessing tool at ArcToolbox > Data Management tools > Raster.
    2. Use Build Pyramids for a single raster or Batch Build Pyramids for many rasters.
  • Option 2:
    1. Navigate to the raster in ArcCatalog
    2. Right-click the raster
    3. Select Build Pyramids.
