How To: Set ArcSDE properties for Military Analyst data loaders

Summary

When raster data is loaded into ArcSDE, the Tile Height, Tile Width, Compression Type, Compression Quality, Pyramid Level and Pyramid Resampling Method can all be set in the ArcToolbox Environment. However, the Military Analyst data loader does not use these parameters (as it is not yet a GP tool).

This article describes how to set these parameters as a System Environment Variable.

Procedure

  1. Open the Systems Properties by either right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties or navigate to Start > Control Panel > System.
  2. Select the Advanced tab and then click Environment Variables button.
  3. Click New under System Variables.
  4. Type one of the following variables into Variable Name:

    DataLoading_SDE_TileCX
    DataLoading_SDE_TileCY
    DataLoading_ResamplingType
    DataLoading_SDE_CompressionType
    DataLoading_SDE_PyramidsLevel
    DataLoading_SDE_CompressionQuality

  5. Type the desired value into Variable Value. For example:

    BILINEAR

  6. Click OK.
  7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for the other desired variables. All parameter variables are not required. Those not entered use the default value.

    Note:
Default values for the parameters are:

    DataLoading_SDE_TileCX: 128
    DataLoading_SDE_TileCY: 128
    DataLoading_ResamplingType: NEAREST
    DataLoading_SDE_CompressionType: LZ77
    DataLoading_SDE_PyramidsLevel: -1
    DataLoading_SDE_CompressionQuality: 75
