PROBLEM

Plotting long plots with HPGL2 get clipped by the plotter

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Some pen and electrostatic plotters as well as early versions of HP DesignJets (e.g., HP DesignJet 650c) clip long maps when plotting with HPGL2 from ArcInfo workstation.

Cause

Each plotter model has a built in paper length limitation when using HPGL2.

Solution or Workaround

There are three possible solutions to this problem:

  • Use the PS option with HPGL2 to override the page length limitation. CalComp 5434 & CalComp 175 each have a LOADSIZE option on the plotter that must be increased in order to use the extra page length capabilities.
  • Use ArcPress for ArcInfo workstation (if printing to an electrostatic plotter or large format inkjet printer).
  • Purchase a newer model printer that supports more languages than HPGL2.
