The AutoCAD reader extension in ArcView 3.x does not support AutoCAD 2004 Drawings.

When encountering this issue, save the drawings by using AutoCAD 2004 > Save As to an earlier version of Drawing files.

Warning:
When saving an AutoCAD 2004 Drawing files to an earlier version, some elements specific to version 2004 may be lost.
