BUG

Copy and paste of non-text annotation into an annotation feature class crashes ArcMap

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

** This issue is addressed in ArcGIS 9.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) **

If you have an annotation feature class and change it's symbology to that of a non-traditional marker symbol(hotel or church symbol), and attempt to copy those features into a new annotation feature class, ArcMap will crash.

Cause

This is a known issue.

Workaround

** This issue is addressed in ArcGIS 9.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Click on the link in Related Information below and download Service Pack 2, if necessary. **

If Service Pack 2 is unavailable, follow the instructions below:

Use the Select Elements tool on the Drawing toolbar to copy the features.
The Paste command will be disabled in the context menu, but you can still paste it by going to Edit (menu) > Paste.

Note:
The only drawback is that this only copies the graphic element - not any user-defined attributes. If your anno features have attributes, you will have to manually update the attributes for the pasted features.
