java.lang.IllegalStateException

Error Message

While making a request to an ArcWeb Service with Glue toolkit the following error message may appear:

"java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not find method for proxy invocation.
Class class esri.arcwebservices.* was passed in. Please check that you are reading in map files."

Cause

The mapping files, or .map files under the WEB-INF/maps directory, were not read properly.

Solution or Workaround

1. Verify the mapping files are under the correct directory:
   
   .../WEB-INF/maps
   
   Verify the files have read permissions.
2. If the problem is not corrected, Turn on Glue logging.
