HOW TO

Add GIF Image Publishing to ArcView IMS

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

GIF image files use the Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) compression technology, which is patented by Unisys Corporation. The patent expired in all countries on July 7, 2004, and the GIF Export is now freely available to ArcView IMS users.

Procedure

When avpublsh.dll is present in your arcview\bin32 folder, ArcView will
generate images in GIF format. After obtaining GIF support, you can return
to using JPEG format simply by moving avpublsh.dll out of that directory.

  1. Download the GIF Publish DLL from the following location: Download GIFPUB.zip
  2. Unzip the GIFPUB.zip file into a temporary location.
  3. Copy avpublsh.dll into the \arcview\bin32 directory where ArcView is installed.
