Problem: ArcMap Server/ArcGIS Server on Unix displays labels with incorrect characters for non-English locales

Description

Labels display incorrect characters for non-English locales.

Cause

This may be caused by one of the following:

1. The font used for labeling on Windows is not available on UNIX.

2. The regional settings using MWCONTROL is incorrect.

Solution or Workaround

Follow the steps below:

  1. Open a terminal on the machine where ArcMap server or the ArcSOC for ArcGIS Server is installed.

    A.
    For ArcMap Server, at the command prompt type

    Code:
    source $AIMSHOME/../init_engine.csh

    For ArcGIS Server, go to the ArcGIS Installation directory and type
    Code:
    source init_server.csh

    B.

    Code:
    cd $MWHOME/fonts

    C. Check if the True Type font used for labeling on Windows is present.

    D. If the font is not present, check if the font is present in the following system font location:
    /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType

    E. If the font is present, copy it to the MainWin font location $MWHOME/fonts

    F. If the font is not present in the system font location also, refer to the Related Information section below.
