Does ArcSDE require the Oracle Spatial product to store features in SDO_GEOMETRY?
If users want to store geometry in Oracle’s SDO_GEOMETRY data type, ArcSDE works with either Oracle Spatial, also known as the Spatial option, or Oracle Locator. Both products support the SDO_GEOMETRY column, spatial indexing and other core Oracle functionality needed by ArcSDE. Locator contains a subset of Oracle Spatial functionality, and is included with Oracle 9i Standard and Enterprise Editions.
In addition to using SDO_GEOMETRY, ArcSDE can store spatial data in Oracle using ArcSDE compressed binary format or OGC Well-Known Binary (WKB) format.
