There are inconsistencies in the Using ArcGIS Spatial Analyst tutorial documentation

Description

At ArcGIS 9.0, there are minor inconsistencies between the Quick-start tutorial documentation in the Using ArcGIS Spatial Analyst book and the software.

Exercise 1:

"Adding data to your ArcMap session" -- page 14
INCONSISTENCY:
The order of the layers added to the ArcMap session that is shown in the image is different in the software.
PROCEDURE:
Click elevation in the table of contents and drag it below landuse.

Exercise 2:

"Reclassifying slope" –- pages 28 - 29
INCONSISTENCY:
The ranges in the Old values column in the graphic of the Reclassify dialog box on pages 28 and 29 are different than those produced with the software.
PROCEDURE:
Continue with the exercise. The rest of the tutorial is not affected.

"Reclassifying landuse" –- page 34
INCONSISTENCY:
The order for the values in the Old values column in the graphic on page 34 does not reflect the order in the software.
PROCEDURE:
Continue with the exercise. Use caution when setting New values that each New value is set for the correct Old value.

"Weighting and combining datasets" –- page 38
INCONCSISTENCY:
The final result generated by the software is slightly different than the result displayed in the graphic.
PROCEDURE:
Continue with the exercise. The rest of the tutorial is not affected.

Exercise 3:

"Creating the source dataset" –- page 43, step 26.
INCONSISTENCY: The step states to "Click the Create new feature dropdown and click Create New Feature". This step should read "Click the Sketch tool".

"Reclassifying landuse" -– page 46
INCONSISTENCY:
The order for the values in the Old values column in the graphic does not reflect the order in the software.
PROCEDURE:
Continue with the exercise. Use caution when setting New values that each New value is set for the correct Old value.

"Performing cost weighted distance" –- page 49
INCONSISTENCY:
The cell size parameter displayed in the Cost Weighted graphic is no longer present in the software.
PROCEDURE:
Continue with the exercise. The rest of the tutorial is not affected.

"Labeling the roads" –- page 53
INCONSISTENCY:
The Labels tab is improved in the software. This is not reflected in the graphic.
PROCEDURE:
Continue with the exercise. The rest of the tutorial is not affected.

Cause

This tutorial was not updated at 9.0. At 9.1 there is a new tutorial available as a PDF.
