Error Message

When trying to connect to ArcWeb Services using the ArcWeb Toolbar, the following error is returned:

"Microsoft .NET Framework

An unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. Click continue and application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Cause

This error can be caused by attempting to connect to ArcWeb Services using an ESRI Global Account that had access to evaluation versions of ArcWeb Services, most likely obtained from the 2003 User Conference.

The error can also indicate that the ArcWeb Toolbar was installed without registering with ArcWeb Services.

Solution or Workaround

** This issue has been resolved with ArcWeb Toolbar for ArcGIS 1.1 **

Evaluation access to ArcWeb Services, given out at the 2003 User Conference, has expired. To use ArcWeb Services in ArcGIS, uninstall ArcWeb Toolbar 1.0, reinstall ArcWeb Toolbar 1.1, and sign up for ArcWeb Services by purchasing a block of credits or getting a free evaluation trial.

  1. Uninstall ArcWeb Toolbar for ArcGIS version 1.0. This is listed as an application in the Add/Remove Programs dialog.
  2. Go to the ArcWeb Toolbar Download page in Related Information and follow the instructions to download ArcWeb Toolbar 1.1.
  3. Purchase a block of credits or sign up for a free evaluation for ArcWeb Services. Visit the ArcWeb Services product page listed in Related Information to learn more about buying ArcWeb Services.
