HOW TO

Change the number of points used in a semivariogram

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

Instructions provided describe how to change the number of points used in a semivariogram. By default, the semivariogram/covariance tools work with data sets having a maximum of 300 data points. This value was selected for performance and usability reasons. However, if it is necessary to increase the maximum number for a large data set, the following instructions demonstrate how to do this. An increase to this maximum value may may cause slower performance.

Procedure

Follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Advanced ArcMap Setting Utility. This can be found at C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Utilities.

    Note:
If using a version other than ArcGIS 9.x, use the operating system’s search utility to find the file named AdvancedArcMapSettings.exe.

  2. Select the Geostatistical tab.
  3. Change the maximum number of input points as necessary under Variography.
