CONNECT on Solaris to Oracle 8i fails with ld.so.1...No such file or database

Trying to CONNECT to an Oracle 8i database on Solaris fails with the error:

Cause

The ArcInfo executable DBI_ORACLE fails to find the Oracle library libclntsh.so.8.0 located in $ORACLE_HOME/lib.
