FAQ: Are There Any Limitations When Using the ActiveX Connector with ArcMap Server?

The ActiveX Connector was not designed to work with ArcMap Server.

The ActiveX Connector API can be used with an ArcMap service to

· generate a basic map
· change layer visibility
· zoom in and out
· pan
· filter a recordset or layer.

In addition, the following tasks can be accomplished by sending raw ArcXML using the ArcIMSConnector.SendAxlRequest() method:

· adding an acetate layer
· buffering.
Due to limitations of ArcMap Server, the ActiveX Connector cannot be used with an ArcMap service to

· change the rendering of a symbol
· extract a layer to a shapefile
· geocode.
