PROBLEM

ArcMap Server feature not available in installation

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

The ArcMap Server feature is not listed in the ArcIMS setup program or in the ArcGIS ArcIMS Add/Remove Programs option after installing.

Cause

Internet Explorer 5.0.1 or higher and MDAC 2.5 are required for ArcIMS ArcMap Server. If your system does not meet these requirements, the ArcMap Server feature will not be available in the installation or Add/Remove dialog box.

If you do not have Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.5 or higher, the install will optionally let you install it the first time you install ArcIMS.

To add ArcMap Server after installing ArcIMS, you must manually install MDAC 2.5 or higher and/or Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0.1 or higher before using Add/Remove to add ArcMap Server.

Solution or Workaround

  1. You must obtain and install Internet Explorer 5.0.1 or higher.
  2. Install MDAC by running the mdac_typ.exe from the \support\MDAC folder on the ArcIMS installation CD.

    Note:
You will need to reboot your system after installing MDAC.

  3. Launch the ArcIMS installation or, if using Add/Remove to add ArcMap Server, go to Add/Remove Programs and click ArcGIS ArcIMS to add ArcMap Server. Click Add/Remove. The ArcMap Server, under the Spatial Server feature, will be available to install.

For more information on how to Add/Remove features, please see the ArcIMS Installation guide at <ArcIMS CD or install directory>\documentation\install.htm.
