FAQ: Can SDEEXPORT/SDEIMPORT Be Used with the Geodatabase?

Answer

ArcGIS Desktop and the geodatabase support feature classes containing only one type of entity: polygons or points or lines. Though ArcSDE can create a feature class that contains multiple types of entities, it cannot be used with ArcGIS Desktop and the geodatabase.

SDEEXPORT and SDEIMPORT can be used with geodatabase simple feature classes. However, SDEEXPORT and SDEIMPORT will not transfer geodatabase domains, rules, relationship classes, annotation feature classes, complex edge feature classes, simple edge feature classes, dimension feature classes, topology, or geometric networks.

Note:
SDE annotation is NOT the same as geodatabase annotation.
