'Font specified in font.properties not found' when searching 'symbol.ttf'

Error Message

Attempting to launch 'aimsadmin' returns the following error:

Cause

The JVM is looking for and cannot find the 'symbol.ttf' font.

Solution or Workaround

1. Obtain a copy of the font 'symbol.ttf' and place it in the JDK fonts directory, typically found in /usr/local/jdk1.3.1/jre/lib/fonts.
   
2. In the 'fonts' directory there is a file named 'fonts.dir' which lists the available, scalable fonts for the Sun JDK. Edit this file. You may need to be root to include the symbol.ttf font file:

   Note:
   You may notice whitespace in the file after the other font names; these are spaces, not tabs.

   
   
3. After you have added the above line, increment the number on the first line of the file by one, to indicate the total number of fonts listed in the file.
4. Save and close 'fonts.dir' and restart 'aimsadmin'.

   If you still see the errors after following the above steps, follow all of the above steps in the /usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType directory.
