ERROR

AVArray: Index 1 not in range...

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

If a grid is included in an image catalog that also contains color images, the following error is returned:

"AVArray: Index 1 not in range..."

Cause

This is a limitation of the image catalog in ArcView. The image catalog is attempting to classify and display all of the raster data it contains using the same set of values. These values are based on the first specified file in the catalog. If the first image is a multiband image, the corresponding legend cannot be applied to the grid image.

Solution or Workaround

The two options provided below require editing the image catalog.

  • Option 1: Move the grid to the top of the catalog. There are two options for doing this. If you still have the view containing all the data for the image catalog, Method B may be the best choice.

Method A: Edit the existing image catalog DBF in a program that will allow you to do this, such as Excel.

Method B: Navigate to the view where the catalog was created and move the grid image theme to the top of the Table of Contents and recreate the image catalog. The cataloged color images may not display correctly.

  • Option 2: Create separate catalogs for the different data types in the view; one for grid images and the other for multiband color images. There will then be two themes in place of one. Both will display properly.
