How To: Clip a grid with ArcView 3.x and Spatial Analyst

Summary

Clipping, extracting and/or subsetting grid data can be accomplished using the Spatial Analyst extension in ArcView 3. The most effective procedure is to set up an Analysis Extent. Here are two methods for specifying an Analysis Extent.

Procedure

  • Clip a grid with another theme's extent.
See: How To: Clip a grid with another theme's extent
The steps below can be used in ArcView GIS 3.x to clip a grid with another theme's extent. The theme being clipped can be from any data source, such as anything on a map. ArcView Spatial Analyst extension is required.
  • Clip a grid based on a display extent.
See: How To: Clip a grid based on a display extent
The following steps show how to clip a grid using the display extent in a view. The Spatial Analyst extension is required.
  • Clip a grid to a specific polygon shape.
See: How To: Clip a grid to a specific polygon shape
Grids can be clipped to specific polygon shapes. Using an Analysis Mask, the output grid will only contain values within the extent of the specified area. The Spatial Analyst extension is required.
