How To: Get all ArcView GIS extensions to show up in the extensions dialog box

Summary

The ArcView GIS Extensions dialog displays all extension files located in the directories referenced by AVEXT and USEREXT environment variables.

Procedure

The AVEXT and USEREXT environment variables are set in the ArcView startup file, however it may be necessary to set these variables on the operating system as well.

  1. Set the AVEXT environment variable to ArcView's default extension directory. Both UNIX and Windows operating systems references $AVHOME/ext.

For help with setting a system environment variable, see: How To: Edit an environment variable.

  • Set the USEREXT environment to reference personal extensions in any directory. Remove any duplicate extensions from USEREXT location that are referenced in the AVEXT directory.

For help with setting a system environment variable, see: How To: Edit an environment variable.

    Note:
For more information, search for 'AVEXT' and 'USEREXT' in the ArcView GIS Help Topics.
