Using ArcObjects, a developer can create a custom address Locator and can use it in the Find dialog box just like any other geocoding service provided with ArcGIS. Developers also have the freedom to specify as many address input fields as they like for their custom Locators. However, if a custom address Locator has more than four address input fields, and a user tries to use that Locator in the Find dialog box in ArcMap, ArcMap crashes.
This was a problem with the software that was resolved in ArcGIS 8.1 Service Pack 2.
If you are working with ArcGIS 8.1, install ArcGIS 8.1 Service Pack 2 or a later version to fix this problem.
