The error message, "Loading Table Data. Could not load data from the data source. If you can correct the problem, press refresh button to reload data", occurs by doing one of the following:

• After joining a table to a shapefile, and opening the attribute table of the shapefile.

• After creating an XY event layer from a dbf table, and opening the attribute table of the XY event layer.

Cause

The most common cause of this error is when the name of the object begins with a number, contains a space, or contains a special character. This includes:

• The name of the shapefile
• The name of the table
• A field name in a table

Solution or Workaround

Rename the file or field to omit the invalid character(s). After the file or field have been renamed, the table join must be reestablished.
