Error Message

An error occurs when running the STDSIMPORT command either from the command line or from the wizard:

Cause

Non-compliant changes in the SDTS format between July 2001 and October 2001 were released to the public. See USGS Data link in the Related Information section.

Solution or Workaround



  1. Download SDTS2DEM.EXE from the GIS Depot site. See Related Information below.

    Note:
    This executable was not created by ESRI and is not supported by ESRI in any way.

  2. Run the executable to convert the SDTS file to DEM.

    Code:
    Usage: sdts2dem [-n] [DDFbase] [DEMbase] [cell_id]
    -n: put newlines at end of 1024-char line [default is NO newline].
    DDFbase: first 4 chars (ABCD) in DDF file name (ABCDxxxx.ddf)
    DEMbase: file name for output without .DEM extension
    cell_id: characters in position 7 and 8 of CELL file name (usually 'L0')

  3. Use the DEMLATTICE or DEMGRID command in ArcInfo Workstation, or the 'DEM to GRID' tool in ArcToolbox.
