PROBLEM

Network trace stops at features with no weight feature attribute

Last Published: May 6, 2021

Description

Note:
This article pertains to ArcGIS versions 8.x, 9.x, and 10.0 only. Later versions of ArcGIS may contain different functionality, as well as different names and locations for menus, commands and geoprocessing tools.

When performing a network trace using weight filters, the trace results stop at features that don't have an associated feature attribute for the weight being filtered; for example, detached junctions.

Cause

In the context of weight filters, the value of 0 is reserved for network features that don't have a field associated with a weight.

Solution or Workaround

To include features in the trace that don't have an associated feature attribute for the weight being filtered, include 0 in the weight filter range. For example:

  • If the weight filter range is '3-11,' this means the trace will include those features whose weight values are between 3 and 11 inclusive. Features without an associated feature attribute for the weight will not be traced.
  • If the weight filter range is '3-11, 0,' this means the trace will include those features whose weight values are between 3 and 11 inclusive, as well as those features that don't have an associated feature attribute for the weight.
