Segmentation Violation" or "Illegal Instruction" on IBM AIX

Error Message

I received a "Segmentation Violation" or "Illegal Instruction" error when attempting to view my Java Standard Viewer on IBM AIX.

Cause

If you are running Netscape browser, you encountered this problem because the Just In Time Compiler is enabled.

Solution or Workaround

1. Navigate to your $JAVA_HOME/bin directory and run the "JavaPluginControlPanel" executable.
2. Click the Advanced tab and uncheck Enable Just In Time Compiler.
3. Click Apply and close the Java Plug-in Control Panel window.
