FAQ: Why Does the GeoProcessing Wizard's Merge Tool Omit Attribute Values in some Fields?

Answer

The Merge tool creates a new shapefile with a list of fields based on one of the input layers. If a merge layer does not contain all the fields present in the base layer, the records added to the new shapefile from that layer will not contain data for those fields.
