How To: Configure iPlanet and the ArcIMS AppServerLink and JSP Samples on Windows

Summary

Instructions provided describe the steps to configure iPlanet for the ArcIMS AppServerLink and copy the JSP website directories to the correct location.

Procedure

  1. Verify that iPlanet has JSP enabled and is pointing to the correct JDK compiler:
    a. In a web browser, type: “http://<localhost.domain.com>:<serveradminport>”, type your user name and password, and click OK. The iPlanet Web Server Administration Server screen displays.
    b. Select your server from the dropdown list and click Manage.
    c. Click Servlets in the navigation bar on the top. The Enable Servlets screen displays.
    d. Click Yes to Enable JSP.
    e. Click OK, click Save and Apply, and click OK.
    f. In the Note, click the Configure JRE/JDK link.
    g. Click JDK to enable it.
    h. Specify the JDK path, for example c:\jdk1.3.x. The libpath and classpath can be left blank provided you are using the default JDK directory structure. If not, specify the libpath and classpath directory.
    i. Click OK, click Save and Apply, and click OK.
  2. Add arcims_appserverlink.jar to the Web server classpath. This JAR file provides the Java classes for communicating with the ArcIMS Application Server. At the same time, you can add arcims_jspbeans.jar to the Web server classpath. This jar file provides the Java classes for the JSP samples.
    a. Click Servlets in the navigation bar on the top and click the Configure JVM Attributes link along the side.
    b. Position your cursor at the end of the last entry in the classpath text box and type the following:
    ;<ArcIMS Installation Directory>\Connectors\AppServerLink\arcims_appserverlink.jar;
    <ArcIMS Installation Directory>\Samples\Java_JSP\Classes\arcims_jspbeans.jar
    c. Click OK, click Save and Apply, and click OK.
    d. Close iPlanet Administration Server.
  3. Set default.jsp as a default page:
    a. Click Content Management in the navigation bar on the top, and click the Document Preferences link along the side.
    b. In the Index Filename box, add ‘default.jsp’ followed by a comma to the beginning of the line, for example:

    c. Click OK, click Save and Apply, and click OK.
  4. Restart iPlanet Web server.
    -On Windows NT: Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Services;
    -On Windows 2000: Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Component Services.
  5. Copy the sample ArcIMS JSP Web sites to your Web server's document root directory, which by default is \Netscape\Server4\docs, or to a virtual directory. For example:
    a. Copy <ArcIMS Installation Directory>\Samples\Java_JSP\AdvancedViewer to <virtual or root directory>\AdvancedViewer.
    b. Copy <ArcIMS Installation Directory>\Samples\Java_JSP\Extractor to <virtual or root directory>\Extractor.
    c. Copy <ArcIMS Installation Directory>\Samples\Java_JSP\Geocoder to <virtual or root directory>\Geocoder.
