Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Note:
The content in this article pertains to ArcGIS versions 8.x only. Later versions of ArcGIS may contain different functionality, as well as different names and locations for menus, commands and geoprocessing tools.

When labeling layers in the map, it takes a long time to display them.

Cause

If there are annotation or graphics in the map, it is possible they are interpreted as obstructions to avoid while placing labels.

Solution or Workaround

Set the conflict detection weight = none for annotation groups in the map.

  1. Right-click the data frame, select Properties, then select the Labels tab.
  2. Click Conflict Detection Rules.
  3. Click the row for the Default Layer in the Feature Weight column, and select None from the drop-down list.
